Easy Dutch Oven Desserts

Have you seen or heard of dutch oven cooking, but not sure how to start?  Here's what you need to know. It's easier than you think - don't be afraid to try!

Fruit Cobbler

Add your DRAINED fruit in the dutch oven.  Bag of frozen berries, canned peaches or your favorite fruit.

Sprinkle one box of dry cake mix (white, yellow, chocolate) evenly on top of your fruit.

Place dutch oven on top of 10 hot charcoal briquets placed in a circle.  Add 20 briquets spaced evenly on the lid.  Let cook for 30 minutes.

Apple Pie

Using 4 rounds of premade pie dough rounds (sold in packs of two).  Place one round in the bottom of an oiled or seasoned dutch oven.  Cut two rounds in half and use the four 1/2 rounds to create the side walls of your pie.  Place the 1/2 rounds cut side down and overlay with the bottom round about one inch and press seams together.

Fill your pie shell with a large can of apple pie filling.  Add the final full round on top of the fruit filling and fold over the curved side pieces and press seams together.

Place dutch oven on top of 10 hot charcoal briquets placed in a circle.  Add 20 briquets spaced evenly on the lid.  Let cook for 45-60 minutes.

Using hot pads for protection, carefully remove lid and place dutch oven on a solid surface that can take the heat.

Serve with ice cream or eat it up just like it is.  Now enjoy your outdoor dessert and don't tell anyone how easy it was.  Your guests will be impressed!
